Staying Creative Under Pressure
The purpose of this is to provide an article to encourage to start-up your own business, even the whole world has been a force in the global Economy and in the long-term trend that's been thrown for a loop.
It is clear that creating an urgency to save sinking ships is imperative and in fact, working long hours to do so is critical to us. When teams are crashing on deadlines, pulling together can be energizing.
At this stage, I would like to introduce myself as Marketing & eCommerce Expert, who has been recognized as one of thousands of executives and professionals throughout the world that have been considered my many as the single highest mark of achievement and have made my career move to the UK (London) and Asia in order to join NASDAQ Listed firms in Jakarta, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore as well as Hong Kong.
By 2007 I have successfully returned my Consulting Teams in the Middle East and in fact I have been returning many well nominated firms’ divisions profitability and was enjoying being back in London with my closest University friends when I have been introduced to the world’s largest global conferencing provider, InterCall a subsidiary of West Corporation, about the European Sales Executive position.
Looking back to my career, I have always been working for well know firms and was attracted to risk and results that needs to be achieved with my teams, a self-innovator with a great track record of what I have done before and consistently I’m achieving great results. Having the ability to frame and reframe challenges quickly is not some kind of knowledge that can be gained at school or university. The ability to get various people with different agendas onto the same page and starting with passion with a new plank sheet of paper.
In the past years, me and my teams have lit a fire under a trading company and Internet-Start-Up in Shanghai that has been providing a spark of hope to my previous CEO, who gave me access to key-people within his organization, as well as privileges and fringe benefits. From media reports, it seems that teams under my leadership have been shaking up the place the way another’s did generations ago during economic crisis.
As a hands-on manager, my last CEO always expected his direct reports and to meet with him regularly, which we did face to face in our headquarter or via telephone or online-conference.
Just in May 2008, I have been forced to size my teams down and to start with lay-offs, as most of our customers went insolvent and we have been losing business on a daily basis and due to the loss in business my HR department has regret to inform me that they have been laying-off 300 staff across the world, including myself.
After being dismissed, I asked myself: What is success for a CEO?
In my opinion, this might be a discontinuing and lively debate about the ultimate purpose of a business, and some claim that the overarching purpose of a business is to ensure its long-term survival and others argue that a business exists in order to serve its customers and to preserve employment. In fact, there is no CEO school or any degrees where you can obtain that kind of knowledge.
Just a few days after being dismissed, I was sitting in my penthouse in Shanghai, looking down to the city (Puxi-District) and asked myself: A business that fails to keep its customers over a protracted period will not remain profitable and recalled a conversation that I had with the HR Director of Johnsons & Johnsons in Emirate's Business Class Lounge in Dubai. We met by coincidence in Dubai for a few minutes and met again in Istanbul: "What a surprise!" We went out for dinner to a small-fish-place and she encouraged me to start-up my own business.
So I decided to contact one of my professors in a well known University in Shanghai, the place where I have been teaching MBA-C Students 6 hours per week and arranged a come together with him. We intended to enjoy our lunch at Elements Fresh near to Portman Ritz Carlton Hotels in Shanghai and ended up with his free vouchers at KFC, buy 1 get 1 for free.
After having had a deep 1-2-1 conversation, I felt like being ready to establish my own business in Beijing and just a few weeks later I made it as CEO, that currently employs 9 staff in Athens, Beijing, Stockholm and Shanghai.
